Dr. DeVault died May 25 in Washington, D.C.
Dr. DeVault's generosity to the IU School of Medicine is
well known. He established an endowed chair in the Department
of Otolaryngology in honor of his wife Arilla Spence DeVault
as well as the Devault Otologic Research Laboratory at Riley
Hospital for Children.
The 98-year-old physician also donated $1.5 million to
the construction of the Indiana University Alumni Center
which was named in his honor. Dr. DeVault's distinguished
career took him to more than 200 diplomatic posts around
the world - in 1950, he set up a worldwide medical care
system under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State.
