1955
Roland Ahlbrand, MD, and Marilyn, his wife of 45 years, live in Ft. Wayne,
Ind., and enjoy the Florida sun each winter. They have three children and seven
grandchildren.
Ralph Pratt Jr., MD, retired in 1990 and is chairman of the Farmers Board of
Milton in Milton, Ky. He enjoys traveling and spending time with his three children
and eight grandchildren. His wife passed away in 1998.
Donald M. Schlegel, MD, heads for the golf course regularly now that he's
retired. His wife Helen recovered from a minor stroke with minimal disability.
Dr. Schlegel has five children and 11 grandchildren. His son and son-in-law
are both IUSM graduates.
Edward F. Steinmetz, MD, is semi-retired, but sees patients four days each
week at his Indianapolis office. Dr. Steinmetz, whose wife has passed away,
has eight children.
Royce Truex, MD, is retired from pediatric practice. During his career, he
worked in several refugee camps and spent time in Kenya and Tanzania. He earned
a master's degree in public health from the University of California-Berkley
in 1990. Dr. Truex and his wife, a nurse, live in California. They have three
married children, one of whom is a pediatrician, and four grandchildren.
1960
Philip R. Akre, MD, retired from cardiology in 1999 and now serves as chairman
of the board, Bank of Colorado. His wife is a semi-retired opera soprano and
they have three children: a son, 25, and two daughters, 15 and 17.
Raymond S. Beights, MD, of Ft. Wayne, Ind., is retired but keeps very busy
with his family. He and his wife have six
children, 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Franklin W. Budd, MD, is retired but continues to sit on Minnesota's Veterans
Homes Board, St. Luke's Hospital Foundation Board and St. Paul's Episcopal Church
Health Committee. He is past president of the Northland Medical Associates,
an 80-member independent physicians group based in Duluth. Dr. Budd and his
wife, who owns a stationery store, have three daughters and four grandchildren.
Andy Dzenitis, MD, retired after 25 years of private practice in neurosurgery.
He spends winters in Longboat Key, Fla., playing tennis and golf. His wife Alice
works as a cancer registrar. He has three sons: John, a chemical engineer; Paul,
a prosecutor in Kentucky; and Dan, an investment banker on Wall Street. He has
two grandchildren
Jack R. Inyart, MD, retired from emergency medicine but is studying information
technology at Devry Institute in Phoenix. He spends winters in Fountain Hills,
Ariz., and summers in Door County, Wis. He reports his wife and children are
doing well.
David L. Nahrwold, MD, is retired and serves as a member of the accreditation
council for graduate medical education, vice president of the American College
of Surgeons and emeritus professor of surgery at Northwestern University in
Chicago. His wife Carolyn also is retired. They have four children and three
grandchildren.
1965
Thomas P. Dunfee, MD, retired last summer after serving as chief of nephrology
and hypertension at the Henry Ford
Hospital in Detroit. He and his wife Gretchen have been married for 37 years
and have three daughters.
Ted Folkerth, MD, is a cardiac surgeon at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside,
Calif. His wife Jean is the cardiac surgery coordinator at the center. Dr. Folkerth
has three children: Wes has a doctorate in English literature; Beth has several
art
degrees; and Geof is a linguist and musician with the San Francisco Global Trade
Council.
Tom Powell, MD, is involved in temporary placement as a physician in Arizona.
This change comes after nearly 30 years of private family medicine practice.
Raul V. Rivet, MD, is in full-time private practice of neurologic surgery
in New Mexico. He has three children, and his youngest plans to attend medical
school.
1970
Jack R. Adair, MD, retired after a helpful stock market surge. Today, in Florida,
he takes great stock in reading and going to baseball games. While in practice
in Indianapolis, Dr. Adair founded the Indiana Psychiatric Consortium. His wife
Debra
is retired and enjoys knitting; his son Jason is married and teaches junior
high school.
Gerald L. Blossom, MD, practices pediatric emergency medicine in Knoxville,
Tenn. His wife Carla works for a health care company, and his daughters Laurie
and Lindsay are beginning their careers.
George W. Kmetz, MD, practices urology in a six-person group in Canton, Ohio.
He enjoys hiking, skiing, traveling, gardening and investing. Dr. Kmetz and
his wife have been happily married for 32 years. They have two sons: Brian is
an options trader at the CBOE in Chicago; Eric is a screenwriter in Los Angeles.
F. Lusher, MD, practices dermatology and performs cosmetic surgery. He teaches
dermatology at UCLA and does missionary work in China and Haiti. He also volunteers
at a women's shelter's medical clinic, where he works with Los Angeles' free
gang tattoo removal program. His wife teaches special education. Their daughter
Jill is a lawyer in Nevada; son Jonathan is 11.
1980
Tony Zancanero, MD, and Debbie Zancanero, MD, are married and live in Carmel,
Ind. He practices radiology at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis; she is a
pediatrician at St. Vincent's Primary Care Center. She is also associated with
St. Vincent's Family Medicine Residency Program. They have two children in high
school. T.J. plays basketball and Angie is active in volleyball.
William L. Young, MD, is a professor of anesthesia, neurosurgery and perioperative
care at the University of California-San Francisco. He is also the director
of the Center for Cerebrovascular Research.
Bradley R. Wolf, MD, currently does hair restoration surgery after practicing
emergency medicine for the past 10 years in Ohio. He is board certified with
the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and also board certified in emergency
medicine.
David Wineinger, MD, practices general pediatrics in Minnesota, where he enjoys
canoeing, kayaking, fly fishing, remote control airplanes and Jeeps. His wife
Vicky is a homemaker. They have three children: Andy is a college student studying
mechanical engineering, Jay is 16 and Hillary is 11.
1990
Vance Abshire, MD, is in private practice in Zionsville, Ind. He and his wife
Megan, who serves as medical director
of St. Vincent Hospice, have three children.
William Applegarth, MD, became a father early last summer. He, his wife and
their daughter live in the Valparaiso/La Porte, Ind., area where Dr. Applegarth
is in private dermatology practice.
Ricanthony R. Ashley, MD, is a radiologist in Fort Jackson, S.C. He and his
wife Patricia have four boys and a girl ranging
in age from one to nine. The children are home-schooled by Patricia, who is
a teacher.
David S. Bailie, MD, works as a partner in Orthopedic Clinic Associates in
Scottsdale and Tempe, Ariz. The physicians in his practice focus on sports medicine
and are the team physicians for Arizona State University, the Phoenix Suns,
the Phoenix Mercury, the Arizona Rattlers and the Phoenix Coyotes. Dr. Bailie
and wife Amy have two children: Braden is six and Aubrie
is a toddler.
Steve Baker, MD, is a neurologist in a Columbus-based multi-specialty group
called Genesis Physicians, but he
feels one of his greatest accomplishments is his role in a rock band. His wife
Theresa is a clinical nurse specialist. They have
three children, Laura, Anna and Tom. Dr. Baker also has two stepchildren, Tammy
and Cindy.
