A former dean, two top researchers and the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine are recipients of the 2000 World of Difference Awards, presented by the Indiana Health Industry Forum.
Stephen C. Beering, MD, ScD, who served as dean from 1974 to 1983, was the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Ting-Kai Li, MD, distinguished professor and former associate dean for research, was a finalist in the same category.
The winner of the Rising Star Award was the Wells Center. Mary Dinauer, MD, PhD, director of the center and the Nora Letzter Professor of Pediatrics, was a finalist in that category. Dr. Dinauer also is professor of medical and molecular genetics at IUSM.
The IU School of Dentistry also was in the limelight. Associate Dean George Stookey, MSD, PhD, was the winner of the Outstanding Contribution to the Health Industry Award and a finalist in the Lifetime Achievement category.
IHIF is a not-for-profit, private-sector initiative devoted to enhancing the economic growth and development of the health industry in Indiana. In 1998, the IHIF, along with School of Medicine leadership, launched the Biomedical Research Initiative, which resulted in the establishment of the Indiana 21st Century Research & Technology Fund.
