Kids' Health Book Free to Hoosier Families
Caring for Kids is the title of a new book published by Riley Hospital
for Children, offering a wealth of information and tips not found
in traditional parenting books.
The book, partially funded by the Lilly Endowment, was written
by Patricia Keener, MD, clinical professor of pediatrics and director
of general pediatrics at Wishard Memorial Hospital. The book has
four sections: child health care, growth and development, nutrition
and child safety. It also includes references to relevant books
and publications, helpful Web sites and a list of organizations
whose goals are to promote better health and the wholesome development
of youth.
The idea for the book originated with the Riley Memorial Association,
the fund-raising group for Riley Hospital.
"With the input from other physicians, health care professionals
and parents throughout the state, Dr. Keener and her staff have
spent many hours to ensure this book met our vision," says
Richard Schreiner, MD, chairman of IUSM's Department of Pediatrics
and Riley's physician-in-chief.
The goal is to distribute 750,000 copies of the book to all Hoosier
families. It can be ordered by calling the Riley Memorial Association
at (317) 634-4474, or through the organization's Web site at www.rileykids.org/caringforkids/index.htm.
