Have Shots Will Travel
The Travel Health and Immunization Clinic at IU Hospital is one
of the few recognized programs in Indiana to provide a range of
services to adults planning overseas trips. The program, directed
by Thomas A. Jones, MD, associate professor in the Department of
Family Medicine, is certified to give yellow fever vaccinations
and the International Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate required
for travel by some nations.
Other immunizations available: meningitis, hepatitis A and B, tetanus/diphtheria,
polio, MMR and typhoid. Prescriptions also are available for typhoid
and malaria.
Dr. Jones and other staff members receive timely updates from
the Centers for Disease Control about countries and cities experiencing
epidemic outbreaks. They also can inform patients about topics such
as crime, weather and culture, and provide U.S. embassy contacts
of destination countries.
The Travel Health and Immunization Clinic is open Tuesday, Thursday
and Friday. Services are by appointment only and can be scheduled
by calling
(317) 274-1321.
