Klaunig Appointed to EPA Science Panel
James E. Klaunig, PhD, professor in the Department of Pharmacology
and Toxicology, has been appointed to the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency’s Science Advisory Board.
“Clearly, the knowledge, innovation and scientific and technical
expertise of those who serve on the board and its advisory committees
play a big part in the success of a prudent approach to effective
environmental protection,” said EPA Administrator Christine
Todd Whitman.
The EPA Science Advisory Board was established in 1978 and advises
the agency on broad scientific matters of science, technology, social
and economic issues. It also assists on emergency and other short-notice
EPA programs and actions.
Dr. Klaunig, whose term will extend through 2004, is director of
the IUSM Division of Toxicology and director of the Indiana State
Department of Toxicology. He is a fellow in the Academy of Toxicological
Sciences and associate editor of Toxicological Sciences.
