Alumni Volunteers Apply Here

You understood the final year of medical school.

It was a mixed bag of anxiety and anticipation, of juggling studies, exams and clinical rotations – all while prepping and traveling to interviews for residency positions around the country. The IU School of Medicine Alumni Association has a new program that can help students during those busy times.

The Medical Alumni-Student Connection is enlisting volunteer alumni from around the country to assist students conducting their residency searches. These volunteers serve as points of contact in specific cities and areas where students are considering residencies. The association links students with these volunteers via www.iupui.edu/~alumrel s/masc/index.cgi, a site that can be accessed by both groups.

For example, a student interested in pursuing a program in Orlando, Fla., can visit the Web site, enter a username and password, and search for alumni in the Orlando area who are willing to help find out more about a particular medical institution. Volunteers can assist simply by discussing the area and residency program by phone or email. They also are invited to host students to help defray travel expenses.

The MA-SC is one of several services developed by the association whose goal is to keep our 15,000 alumni connected to the School of Medicine. It’s a relationship that seeks to engage and stimulate your interests by providing you with optimum educational, charitable and social opportunities.

The association, with the guidance of its elected council which meets quarterly, is developing and expanding services and programs that have lasting value. Most of these can be found at specific links on our newly revamped Web site at www.alumni.iupui.edu/medicine/index.shtml.
