Routed for Residency
Some celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with shamrocks, parades and the wearing o' the green. The day was no less festive for 259 IUSM students who discovered where they would spend their residencies following graduation in May.
This year’s students fared well on National Resident Match Day, March 17, a program that coordinates the preferences of thousands of medical students and U.S. hospital programs.
Students in the Class of 2005 accepted positions in 34 states, including Indiana. Among the Match Day highlights:
- 46 percent of the IUSM students will pursue at least part of their residencies within Indiana
- 30 percent will be residents at IU Hospital, Riley Hospital for Children and Methodist Hospital\
- 44 percent of IU School of Medicine graduates will enter primary-care programs, which includes internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, primary and combined internal medicine-pediatrics.
