1936
S. Russ Denzler, MD, celebrated his 65th wedding anniversary with his wife Mary
last June. The couple resides in Albuquerque, NM, their home since 1955. Dr. Denzler
served in the Korean War as a surgeon, achieving the rank of major, and was a general

Mary Spurgeon Kitchel, MD, of Spring Lake, MI, first retired in 1980, after
practicing anesthesiology for 35 years. She then did home nursing work for area physicians
until January 1996.
1942 (December)
Kathryn Campbell Susott, MD, retired in 1983 after more than 25 years providing
medical care to military dependents as a civilian physician with the Department of Defense.
She practiced wherever her husband John L. Susott was stationed with the Air Force,
which included Japan, Baghdad, Iraq, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Texas and Hawaii.
She now resides in Carmel, CA.
1950
Samuel Slipp, MD, has been elected president of the American Academy of
Psychoanalysis. He will assume office of this national organization in May 1998 at the
annual meeting in Toronto.
1952
William H. Robinson, MD, of Evansville, IN, retired from Evansville State Hospital,
where he practiced for 20 years.
1955
Ralph M. Pratt Jr., MD, of Madison, IN, retired from his pathology practice in
1990 and is now chairman of Farmers Bank in Milton, KY. Dr. Pratt and his wife Lucille
celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in August.
1963
Robert E. Duncan, MD, has been reappointed as the chief of plastic surgery at St. Vincent's
Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL. He also is a clinical associate professor of plastic surgery at
the University of Florida School of Medicine and University Hospital in Jacksonville.
1968
Jack L. Kane, MD of Carmel, IN, practices ophthalmology in Indianapolis and is a
third-year student at the IU School of Law-Indianapolis. His second novel, The Pits of
Tomsk 7, has been published by Commonwealth Publications
1968
C. Charles Reeck, MD, received the National Multiple Sclerosis Society 1997
Courage Award. He is medical director of musculo-
skeletal services for St. Vincent Hospital,
Indianapolis, and associate professor at IUSM. He serves on the board of the National MS
Society's Indiana chapter and chairs the professional advisory committee. He was diagnosed
with MS in 1980.
1969
Stephen M. Miller, MD, of Longmont, CO, is an interventional radiologist in Boulder
who raises orchids and bonsai. He also raises European Warmbloods at his horse farm and
competes in dressage.
1970
Richard L. Lautzenheiser, MD,an Indianapolis rheumatologist, received the 1997
Arthritis Foundation Humanitarian Award last November. The award recognizes an individual
or corporation for their significant contribution through research and treatment to enhance
the lives of individuals with arthritis. Currently serving as secretary of the national Arthritis
Foundation, Dr. Lautzen-heiser has been involved with the Arthritis Foundation nationally
since 1984 and locally since 1976.
1970
Louise Yoh Owens, MD, a Bloomington, IN, gastroenterologist and family practitioner
received in June 1997 the U.S. Attorney General's Special Recognition Award for Service to
Victims. A former president of the Monroe County Council on the Prevention of Child Abuse,
she has worked to emphasize the connection between some chronic stomach and intestinal
problems and physical and sexual abuse.
1973
Roger Rath, MD, FACS, is an ophthalmologist in Eustis, FL. He founded Lake Eye
Associates in 1977. He also volunteers as a clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology for
the University of Florida in Gainesville. Dr. Rath has participated in several mission trips to
third-world countries to treat patients, help develop eye care programs, and teach new
techniques to local eye surgeons. He is pursuing an MBA degree at the University of Central Florida.

Frederick R. Ridge, MD, of Linton, IN, received the Indiana Academy of Family
Physicians' most prestigious award, Family Physician of the Year, in August 1997.
1976
Richard K. Parrish II, MD, is professor and chairman of the Department of
Ophthalmology/Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine,
and medical director of the Anne Bates Leach Eye Hospital. Dr. Parrish, who specializes in
glaucoma, cataracts and intra-ocular lenses, has been on faculty at the world renowned Institute
since 1982.
1977
Mark E. Williams, MD, is an associate clinical professor at Harvard Medical Schoo
specializing in nephrology. He is chairman of the National Kidney Foundations'
Council on Diabetic Kidney Disease and recently completed three years as chairman of the
Massachusetts Affiliate of the National Kidney Foundation. He and his wife Dr. Meryl LeBoff
live in Boston with their two children, Avery, 12, and Jeremy, 7.

John M. Fennig, MD, is network medical director for Aetna Healthcare in Indianapolis.
He and his wife Julie live in Indianapolis.

Joseph Robertson Jr., MD, MBA, a 12-year veteran of the Department of Ophthalmology
at Oregon Health Sciences University, was appointed director of the OHSU's Casey Eye Institute
last November. A clinician and researcher, he specializes in eye trauma, detachment of the retina
associated with low birth weight babies and vitreous surgery. He earned his MBA in June 1997.
1980
Gary L. Dunnington, MD, has joined the faculty of Southern Illinois University School
of Medicine as professor and chair of the general surgery division. He and his wife Kim have
four children.

Bradley R. Wolf, MD, spent nine years working in emergency medicine
before beginning a career in surgical hair restoration in 1990. He writes, "I now specialize
in microsurgical hair transplants in my private practice in Cincinnati. I also have started the
first hair transplant clinic in St. Petersburg, Russia." His e-mail address is

Thomas C. Schuler, MD, practices spinal surgery at the Northern Virginia

Lowell H. Steen Jr., MD, is an assistant professor at Loyola University Medical Center
and director of invasive cardiology at the Columbus and St. Joseph medical centers in Chicago

Derek S. Wheeler, MD, is a staff pediatrician and director of newborn services at the
