1939
Ted L. Grissell, MD, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, received the Legion of Merit award, one of
the U.S. Army's most prestigious awards, in December 1997 for his service during World War II.
Dr. Grissell practiced in Indianapolis for 42 years before retiring to Florida.
1945
Fred S. Carter, MD, is the chief volunteer physician at Martin Memorial Hospital's Volunteers
in Medicine Clinic, Stuart, FL. He practiced internal medicine for 43 years in Indiana and later in
Florida, where he was twice chief of medicine at Martin Memorial Medical Center. A past president
of the Florida Society of Internal Medicine (FSIM), he now serves as its federal legislative coordinator.
1952
James W. Kemper, MD, FACP, FACR, retired from medical practice May 1998 after 40 years
of practice as a rheumatologist with Kelsey-Seybold Clinic in Houston, TX. He was chairman and
chief executive officer of the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic from 1983 to 1994, and a clinical professo
of medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine.
1953
Billy J. Bauman, MD, Madison, WI, retired from full-time pathology practice in July 1997.
He is now semi-retired and serves as a consulting forensic pathologist to attorneys and back-up
forensic pathologist to the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory.
John C. Ralston Jr., MD, lives in Avondale, AZ, where he is a physician for the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections.
1958
Harvey Feigenbaum, MD, distinguished professor of medicine at the IU School of Medicine
and director of the echocardiography laboratories at Indiana University Hospital, was recognized
by the American Heart Association at its annual meeting late last year in an exhibition and videotape
of American pioneers who have made major contributions to cardiovascular medicine in the twentieth
century.
1958
Richard D. Hohl, MD, of Beaverton, OR, is retired after spending the last 20 of his 35 years
of practice in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. He was the medical director of the Diabetes Institute
at the Good Samaritan Hospital and Medical Center in Portland. He is currently serving his second
term as a trustee on the board of the Good Samaritan Foundation.
Lawrence D. Stieglitz, MD, and his wife Marilyn Stieglitz, MD '54, are retired and live in Kalamazoo, MI.

William K. Nasser, MD, founder of Indianapolis-based Nasser, Smith & Pinkerton Cardiology,
Inc., has been named a 1998 Distinguished Physician by St. Vincent Hospitals & Health Services,
Indianapolis. He is also a clinical professor of medicine at the IU School of Medicine, serves on the
school's Alumni Association board, and is on the board of managers of the Indiana Heart Institute at
St. Vincent Hospital.

Anthony R. Dowell, MD, has a private internal medicine practice in Muncie, IN. He also is
the program director for geriatric medicine and supervises the geriatric medicine fellowship at
Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
Robert E. Duncan, MD, is chief of plastic surgery at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL. He also has a private practice where his focus is cosmetic surgery.
1968
Michael L. Johnson, MD, practices adult general psychiatry and out-patient psycho-pharmacology
with the Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates of Cambridge and Peabody. He also teaches first- and
second-year Harvard Medical School students the important aspects of patient-physician relationships
and medical interviewing.
Sidney F. Miller, MD, is a professor of surgery at Wright State University in Dayton, OH, and is actively involved in general surgery, trauma and burn care. He is a governor of the American College of Surgeons and director of the Miami Valley Hospital's regional adult burn center.
1974
Gregory L. Darron, MD, a family physician previously in Janesville, WI, is now the medical
director of the St. Francis Family Medical Center in Carlsbad, NM. For the past eight years, he has
directed the Mercy Health System Family Practice residency program. He and his wife Beverly have
three children - Amy, Amanda and Rachel.
Bernard J. Emkes, MD, is the current president of the Indianapolis Medical Society. He is a recent past president of the St. Vincent Hospital Indianapolis Medical Staff, and is a current member of the Indiana State Medical Association Executive Commitee.

Chester Jablonski, MD, is assistant professor of pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
Board certified in anatomical and clinical pathology, he practices general pathology at St. Mary's
Hospital in Milwaukee. His emphasis is surgical pathology, cytology and micro-biology. He and
his wife have four children.

In January 1997 Richard D. Feldman, MD, received a gubernatorial appointment as Indiana
State Health Commissioner. He and his wife Rebecca live in Indianapolis.

Stephen W. Perkins, MD, FACS, is president-elect of the American Academy of Facial
Plastic and Re-constructive Surgery and a director of the American Board of Facial Plastic and
Reconstructive Surgery. He is in private practice in Indianapolis and is a clinical associate professor
of otolaryngology at IUSM.

Richard C. Rink, MD, is the Robert A. Garrett Professor of Pediatric Urologic Research and
director of the Division of Pediatric Urology.
1984 Stephen T. Rust, MD, FACP, an internist and geriatrician practicing in Pueblo, CO, has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP).

Jeffrey P. Lopez, MD, was elected president of the Association of Freestanding Radiation
Oncology Centers, representing approximately 300 freestanding radiation oncology centers across
the U.S. He also is president of ARO, Inc., a freestanding cancer treatment center in Ashland, KY,
and is president of Liberty Holding Company, a real estate development and leasing company.

Benjamin W. Begley, MD, and his wife Susan reside in Oshkosh, WI, where he practices
orthopaedic surgery. They have four children.

Todd A. Ryan, MD, an internal medicine physician, practices at Diagnostic Medicine of
Carmel (DMC), a primary care affiliate of Indianapolis-based Nasser, Smith & Pinkerton Cardiology,
Inc. His areas of special interest include asthma, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, geriatrics, and heart
and lung disease. He is board certified in internal medicine and is an active member of the American
Medical Association.

R-Jay L. Marcus, MD, is an anesthesiologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He and his
wife Robin live in Chicago with their daughter Talia Elyse.

Francis P. Worden, MD, of Ann Arbor, MI, has started a fellowship in hematology and
oncology at the University of Michigan Hospital.
1994
Morris R. Gieselman, MD, of Noblesville, IN, completed a residency in emergency medicine
in Detroit and now practices in Indianapolis. He and his wife Ami have two children, Kyle and Katie.
