Keeping the Dream Alive
Riley Hospital's 75 Years of Service to Indiana Families

The dream of the friends of James Whitcomb Riley and the founders of the Riley Memorial Association will be celebrated in October 1999, the 75th birthday of the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children. Riley Hospital has earned its status as a treasure to the state and a natural resource that embodies the highest aspirations of Indiana's citizens. Since the hospital's founding, constant striving for excellence has gone hand in hand with generous support given by men, women and children from every walk of life and locality in the state.

Empowered by its founders with vitality, hope, compassion and extraordinary vision, Riley Hospital's resounding success is attributable to the skill and selfless devotion of its staff in partnership with all who care deeply for children.

As the flagship for children's health in Indiana, Riley Hospital is committed by tradition and its mission to:

  1. provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art clinical services necessary for the care of seriously and chronically ill children and those with physical, emotional, or other disabilities
  2. be accessible, programmatically and financially, to all Hoosier children who would benefit from Riley services
  3. provide superb education for clinicians who care for children today and in the future, including primary care clinicians, subspecialists, medical educators and physician scientists
  4. conduct state-of-the-art research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of serious medical, surgical and other disorders of children
  5. provide leadership and preventive health education, health promotion, child advocacy, parent education/family support, parent effectiveness and mental health
