1941
Dewitt Wilcox Brown, MD,
is retired from his psychiatry practice.
He serves as an emeritus professor of clinical psychology at IUSM.

1942
John Mader, MD, is retired but served for nearly 11 years on the
Indiana State Medical Licensure and Examination Board and served
as chief of staff at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Ind. Dr. Mader
received the Paul Rhodes Award for Humanity in Medicine in 1988.

1944
April Dwight W. Schuster, MD,
lives in Indianapolis with Anne,
his wife of 56 years. He has been a member of the Broad Ripple
Sertoma Club for 10 years and has enjoyed working with the craniofacial
program at Riley Hospital for Children.

John C. Vanatta, MD, is still teaching part time at the University of Texas
Southwestern Medical School. He added a small laboratory onto his garage
at home where he continues to do a modest amount of research. He completed
one research project with his daughter, an analytical chemist, but the
father-daughter team has not yet published the full paper.

1944 December
Richard Datzman, MD,
constantly is on the move. While walking three
miles every day, he picks up between 200-300 pieces of litter. Dr. Datzman
also travels once a month to nearby attractions.

Robert D. Pickett, MD, of Indianapolis, has been retired for five years.
He enjoys traveling with his wife Genny and spending time in forestry activities
on his farm. He also studies the stock market, does volunteer work and raises
money for IUSM scholarships. He is a medical director for a home health
and day care center for adults. He recently received several awards: the Nine
County Forestry Award for Forest Management in 1998, the Putnam County
Woodland Conservationist Award in 1997 and the Mayor's 1997 Volunteer
Partnership Award.

1950
Samuel Slipp, MD,
currently serves as president of the American Academy
of Psychoanalysis. 1952 Thomas G. Samter, MD, retired in December 1989.
He was a pathologist at the Sinai Samaritan Medical Center in Milwaukee and
served as a clinical associate professor of pathology at the clinical campus of
University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He and his wife Hiroko spend winters
in Hollywood, Fla., where Dr. Samter enjoys biking, walking and reading mysteries
in English, Japanese and German.

1954
Thomas J. Covey, MD,
is a pediatric physician for Saint Margaret Mercy
Health Care Center. He has been conducting clinical research studies on early
identification of and therapy for cerebral palsy and cerebral palsy precursors since 1992.

1959
Stephen M. Dillinger, MD,
works in the emergency room at Hancock Memorial
Hospital in Greenfield, Ind. He worked for 28 years as a surgeon in the Conservative
Baptist Mission in Ivory Coast, West Africa. He received a medal of honor from their
government in recognition of his work there.

1960
M. Eugene Tardy, MD,
currently is a professor of otolaryngology/head and
neck surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago and IUSM. He is past president
of several organizations including the American Board of Otolaryngology, the American
Academy of Otolaryngology and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and
Reconstructive Surgery. He also is a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's
board of directors.

1964
Ronald D. Miller, MD,
is a professor and chair of the Department of Anesthesia
and a professor of cellular and molecular pharmacology at the University of
California-San Francisco. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National
Academy of Science, and editor-in-chief of a major journal and a 2,500-page textbook.

1969
Robert J. French, MD,
began taking piano lessons at age 46 and after nine years is
able to play many classical compositions. He currently is in private family medicine practice
Laguna Beach, Calif., and is engaged to a concert pianist. 1970 David W. Roberts, MD,
recently was appointed director of the pediatric center of Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, Conn.

1973
Stephen H. Pollom, MD,
was appointed chief executive officer for Methodist Medical Group
in Indianapolis in 1999. Prior to this appointment, he served as the president of integrated practices
and chief of internal medicine for MMG.

1974
Michael H. Schatzlein, MD,
was appointed president and CEO of St. Joseph Hospital
in Fort Wayne, Ind. in 1999. He performed the hospital's first open-heart operation, a mitral
valve replacement, in 1982. He and his wife Liz have three children: Derek, 10; Michael, 24;
and Tricia, 21. 1976 Barney R. Maynard, MD, is immediate past president of the Indiana
State Medical Association. He is a member of Urological Associates Inc. in Evansville, Ind.

1979
Nancy A. Nussmeier, MD,
is director of cardiovascular anesthesia research at the Texas
Heart Institute in Houston. She also serves as a faculty member at the University of California
in San Francisco. She is the mother of nine-year-old identical twin girls and a two-year-old son.

Michael Passo, MD, practices general ophthalmology with glaucoma as a subspecialty.
He served as president of the Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology and chief of ophthalmology
at the Portland VA Medical Center. Currently he serves as an associate clinical professor of
ophthalmology at Oregon Health Sciences University.

1982 Mark A. Hochstetler, MD, was named vice president of physician integration for
Veterans Health Administration Central, LLC, in Indianapolis, in January 1999. He will oversee
the implementation of programs to build partnerships between VA hospitals and health systems
and their affiliated physicians.

1983 Tom F. Hrisomalos, MD, is board-certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine
and infectious disease. He recently moved his practice to IMA Inc. in Indianapolis.

1986 Barry W. Fisher, MD, currently is medical director of the post-traumatic stress
disorder/behavioral medicine clinic at Highland Drive VA Hospital in Pittsburgh.

1987 Sheila D. Baker, MD, joined the staff of Eastern Illinois University's on-campus
clinic in January 1999. She has a special interest in women's health care issues and also
likes to travel. She recently visited the Middle East.

David Brokaw, MD, was inducted as a fellow into the American Academy of Orthopedic
Surgeons during ceremonies at the academy's 66th annual meeting in Anaheim, Calif.

1989
Theressa Wright, MD,
is a cardiovascular unit clinical research physician with
Eli Lilly Research Laboratories of Indianapolis. She was a cardiology fellow at the University
of Iowa Hospital from 1992 to 1995. Dr. Wright is also a member of the Franklin College
Board of Trustees.

1991
Brian Halloran, MD,
completed his residency in vascular surgery at the University of
Nebraska Medical Center in May 1998. He and his family have moved to Maryland,
where he is completing a two-year fellowship in vascular surgery.

David B. McLaren, MD, and Kim M. McNeil, MD, are married and working at
the U.S. Naval Hospital in Naples, Italy. Dr. McLaren is an ophthalmologist and Dr. McNeil is a radiologist.
